In the world of virtual football, Electronic Arts has bid farewell to the FIFA moniker after three decades. Rebranded as EA Sports FC 24, the game introduces a plethora of enhancements through its HyperMotion technology, an updated Frostbite engine, and distinctive PlayStyles. Does the change in licensing strategy affect the game, or is it a step forward? We checked out the PlayStation 5 version.
The integration of HyperMotion has improved the player movement in the game, offering a level of individuality between players that is striking when you start paying attention to it. The result is a visually breathtaking recreation of the sport, with a diverse array of finishes and moves, making games and even individual attacks all feel unique.
EA Sports’ analysis of player movements and styles has paid off and can be seen depending on who you play with, as stars like Erling Haaland have their distinctive playstyles reflected in the game. Matches featuring top clubs like Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City will therefore feel more authentic than ever before, but the effect will not be quite as convincing with lesser-known teams and players. In short, the PlayStyles feature introduces an extra layer of authenticity, but only with top teams and players.

The career modes receive some updates over what we saw in the last FIFA game, particularly in Manager and Player Career. The addition of hiring coaches and the Tactical Vision feature adds depth to team management. Player Career introduces the Player Agent feature, allowing gradual progression through clubs and leagues.
Ultimate Team has significant additions this year, with Women’s players now available alongside men, offering greater squad-building variety. The introduction of Evolutions breathes new life into previously overlooked bronze cards. However, early-game rewards and menu navigation could use refinement, as Ultimate Team still isn’t all that welcoming to casual players just looking to play a few fun matches with some of their favorite players.
In the area where it matters most, the gameplay in EA Sports FC 24 is the most dynamic it’s ever been. Ball physics and player movements are noticeably smoother, offering a more realistic experience, although the goalkeeper AI remains a slight concern, with some of the old issues still lingering.

The Frostbite engine elevates the game’s visuals to new heights, and EA Sports FC 24 excels in moment-to-moment gameplay because of it, with HyperMotion technology setting a new standard. This is especially true in matches that feature top-tier teams, where PlayStyles add depth and create a dynamic and authentic experience. However, the AI, particularly in defense and goalkeeping, leaves room for improvement. Additionally, menu navigation, especially in Ultimate Team, could be more intuitive.
In conclusion, EA Sports FC 24 showcases a compelling blend of realism and entertainment. With impressive technological advancements, a refined engine, and distinctive playstyles, the game offers a visually stunning and engaging football experience. While there are areas for improvement, and some of the changes apply mostly to a select group of teams and players, EA Sports FC is off to a solid start.
