My Time At Sandrock review

Developed by Pathea Games and published by Focus Games, My Time at Sandrock is a new take on the farming genre that invites players to a dusty town in need of revival. Set 330 years after “the Day of Calamity” it’s your duty to breathe life back into this rugged city-state, using both your trusty tools and unwavering determination. This sequel to My Time at Portia introduces a captivating blend of life simulation, sandbox creation, and farming mechanics, all set against the backdrop of a vividly imagined post-apocalyptic world.

In My Time at Sandrock, players embark on a compelling journey in the aftermath of a world-altering calamity. The challenge isn’t a small one: to transform a desolate wasteland into a thriving community again. Despite the colorful visual style, the setting is a harsh frontier, one that underscores the delicate balance between progress and nature, which is an interesting dynamic to work within.

The game’s narrative is further enriched by an engaging cast of characters, each with their own stories and backgrounds. These interactions provide a degree of depth and meaning to your journey within the town, giving you a sense of connection to them and lending a purpose to your missions.

The core gameplay of My Time at Sandrock encompasses the familiar elements of a farm simulation: tending to crops, raising livestock, and expanding your property in order to grow your settlement. What sets it apart is the infusion of RPG-inspired elements, introducing combat, dungeon exploration, and skill progression. This twist adds an extra layer of complexity to the farming experience, providing a fresh perspective for those familiar with the genre and perhaps making the farming genre more accessible to those who’d otherwise skip it.

One downside during the review phase was that we didn’t yet have access to a patch that would fix some smaller technical issues that would pop up now and then – though those fixes should be included by the time the game goes on sale. If you’re on the fence, it could be worth it to check out some user experiences for this one.

My Time at Sandrock gives players a nice blend of life simulation, farming, and RPG mechanics, creating a refreshing and immersive experience for players. It’s probably not quite enough for those who have no interest in farming mechanics to jump aboard now, but it should offer those who have seen all flavors of the genre already something new and fun to play.

Score: 7.4/10
