We’re checking out a trio of DLC releases today, with a look at X4: Timelines, the Seeing Stars DLC for A Little To The Left and the Ultraman 4 Characters Pack for GigaBash.
X4: Timelines DLC review (PC)
The X4: Timelines expansion for X4: Foundations, developed by Egosoft, is another ambitious expansion for the long-running series that enriches the game with a new storyline and an range of new scenarios. Players step into the shoes of Harper Donel, a trader who enters into a risky deal that ends up leading to an encounter that fundamentally alters his perception of the universe. This narrative-driven approach introduces fresh elements, and having a standalone story makes Timelines appealing to (relatively) new players as well.
The gameplay mechanics in X4: Timelines have been designed to incorporate new challenges and experiences for X4 players. This happens through scenarios that unlock progressively, gradually rewarding players with new ships and systems (and even a new faction), thereby keeping the gameplay dynamic and engaging. However, while the narrative itself is newcomer-friendly, the complexity of the controls might turn out to be a little daunting for them, especially during high-stakes scenarios. There’s definitely a learning curve here, and one that will be easier for seasoned X4 players who will appreciate the new strategic opportunities.

Visually, Timelines continues to impress with its detailed environments and ship designs, as well as audio that complements the visual elements well with a great soundtrack. And despite some minor issues with control complexity, X4: Timelines stands out as another substantial addition to X4: Foundations, which thanks to expansions like this continues to be relevant despite having launched way back in 2018.
A Little To The Left – Seeing Stars DLC review (PS5)
The Seeing Stars DLC for the charming A Little To The Left, developed by Max Inferno and published by Secret Mode, is a solid new addition to the acclaimed puzzler. The expansion introduces 38 new levels, including five bonus levels, where players can explore multiple solutions to its various organizational puzzles. Each level has been well designed, offering both straightforward and more intricate challenges between them – using interactive items that can be folded, flapped and crushed to make sure everything fits.
The gameplay mechanics in Seeing Stars are every bit as intuitive and engaging as those in the base game, with each level providing up several different solutions. This multiplicity of solutions adds a layer of replayability, encouraging players to discover every possible way to tidy up the spaces. The controls are easy to grasp as well, making the task of organizing both relaxing and enjoyable. However, experienced players might find the easier puzzles less challenging, although the layered difficulty caters to a wide audience.

Visually, Seeing Stars features the same charming aesthetic that the base game has, with clean, crisp graphics. The new soundtrack is a pleasant addition, complementing the serene atmosphere of the game. Overall, Seeing Stars is a worthy expansion that enhances the original game’s appeal with its variety and creativity, though it may not fully satisfy those seeking more complex puzzles or something that really changes up the gameplay formula.
GigaBash – Ultraman 4 Characters Pack DLC review (PS5)
We recently looked at other GigaBash content, but hadn’t covered the Ultraman 4 Characters Pack DLC for the game yet. Developed and published by Passion Republic Games, this pack adds four more characters – all from the Ultraman universe.
Included are Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga, Alien Baltan, and Camearra, with each character meticulously designed, featuring unique movesets and abilities that are true to their on-screen personas. Ultraman himself excels in close-quarters combat with his Spacium Beam, while Alien Baltan utilizes skills like cloning and teleportation. Ultraman Tiga can change between types and adapt mid-combat, while Camearra has a good mix of long-range and close-range attacks to bring to the table.

Visually, all four characters have been well realized, capturing the essence of the Ultraman series, with vibrant colors and smooth animations. The audio also features sound effects and voice lines that fans will recognize, though some of the novelty wears off after extended play. Nonetheless, the Ultraman 4 Characters Pack is a solid addition for fans of both GigaBash and the Ultraman series – though we figure that the likes of Godzilla still hold a larger appeal to most players.
