Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade blends Japanese folklore with roguelite structure and side-scrolling action, offering a visually rich but uneven adventure through a demon-infested Edo period. Developed by 7QUARK and Game Source Entertainment, the game wears its influences proudly, channeling both traditional mythology and modern genre staples into an experience that is vibrant and ambitious – though not always consistent in execution. Cubic Odyssey review (PS5)
Cubic Odyssey is a game brimming with ambition – one that invites players to traverse a procedurally generated universe, mine its depths, shape its terrain, and defend it from a cosmic plague. On the surface, it seems like a mix of sci-fi sandbox and survival, blending spacefaring exploration with a voxel-based aesthetic and full crafting systems. On the PlayStation 5 version we played, however, this dream feels uneven. While there’s a solid foundation beneath its cubic surface, the execution wavers between moments of genuine discovery and long stretches that are grind-heavy. Neon Apex: Beyond the Limit review (PS5)
Repixel8’s Neon Apex: Beyond the Limit, published by Numskull Games, bursts onto the PlayStation 5 with the kind of unfiltered arcade racing energy that feels like a direct callback to the early 2000s. At first glance, it looks like a tribute to the high-octane, neon-drenched legacy of Burnout and Jet Set Radio Future mixed with a bit of Speed Racer – but beneath the shell-shaded visuals and cyberpunk bravado lies a racer that’s full of ambition and quirks, not all of which land as smoothly as a perfect drift. DOOM: The Dark Ages review (PS5)
DOOM: The Dark Ages marks a bold and audacious new entry in id Software’s storied and long-running franchise, transporting the relentless action of the series into a grim, medieval setting rather than the usual sci-fi/hell backdrop. As a prequel to the 2016 reboot and DOOM Eternal, this installment delves into the origins of the DOOM Slayer, offering a fresh narrative perspective while retaining the visceral combat that defines the series. Captain Blood review (PS5)
After years lost to development limbo, Captain Blood has finally found its way to shore in a form that feels both nostalgic and, at times, somewhat dated. Developed by Seawolf Studio and General Arcade and published by SNEG, the game is a reworked version of an action title that had its origins in the early 2000s, and its resurrection brings with it many of the strengths and weaknesses of that era. On PlayStation 5, it offers a chaotic blend of hack-and-slash swordplay, cannon-fueled naval battles, and a visual style that aims to evoke old-school swashbuckling pulp.
