What We Know

Wall Town Wonders transforms your living room into a miniature town, inhabited by colorful characters who rely on your help to expand and improve their world. Through various quests and mini-games, players will unlock new buildings and customization options, adding a layer of personalization to their town. What We Saw

At Gamescom, we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Wall Town Wonders alongside the Cyborn development team. They walked us through the game’s mechanics and various gameplay elements, showcasing how the town evolves as players complete objectives and interact with their surroundings in mixed reality. It was a guided session that offered a solid introduction to the game’s charming world.

What We Thought

Wall Town Wonders is a fantastic showcase of mixed reality’s potential, particularly on the Quest 3. The game’s most immediately impressive feature is how it integrates seamlessly into your living space. The way the miniature town takes shape on and inside your walls feels both magical and inviting, creating the illusion that you’re nurturing this tiny, vibrant world right in your own home. The hand tracking works smoothly too, letting you naturally interact with the town’s inhabitants and environment, which enhances the sense of immersion and connection to the world you’re building.

Visually, the game has a diorama-like charm, with beautifully animated characters and environments that beckon you to explore up close. There’s an inherent warmth to the design, with colorful details that make the town feel alive and responsive. It’s easy to get swept up in the whimsical atmosphere as you watch your town evolve with each new building or quest completion – though having voiceovers for the characters could have increased the immersion factor.

However, the big question is whether Wall Town Wonders will maintain its appeal over time. While the initial novelty of mixed reality is undeniably captivating (and even awe-inspiring), we found ourselves wondering if there will be enough depth to sustain long-term engagement. The gameplay we experienced was delightful despite being somewhat straightforward, and we’re curious to see how the full version balances relaxation with challenge and discovery. For now, though, it’s an impressive concept that stands out for its stellar use of MR technology and its cozy, relaxing vibe.

For players who enjoy tranquil games with a unique twist, Wall Town Wonders is shaping up to be a perfect fit, especially if you’re looking for something to relax with after a long day. It’ll be interesting to see how the game expands as more content and customization options are introduced, and we’re looking forward to going hands on with it again in a longer session.
