Eversiege: Untold Ages preview (Gamescom)

Tindalos Interactive, the studio behind strategy-driven experiences like Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, is taking a bold new step with Eversiege: Untold Ages. Published by Dear Villagers, the game mixes roguelite structure with elements of base defense, real-time tactics and RPG progression. That may sound like an unusual blend on paper, but after our first hands-on with the PC version at Gamescom, we walked away with the sense that this fusion of genres could be the secret to its appeal. Borderlands 4 review (PS5)

Borderlands 4 lands on PlayStation 5 as both a continuation and a reinvention of Gearbox Software’s iconic looter-shooter formula. Published by 2K, the game transports players to Kairos, a planet under the suffocating rule of the Timekeeper, a villain who is at once charismatic and terrifying. The setup feels familiar in its “fight the tyrant” narrative, yet the way it’s framed within a crumbling society adds weight and urgency to the chaos. Storytelling has always been a tricky balance for the series, but here it manages to blend irreverent humor with darker undertones, creating a villain that feels genuinely threatening while still leaving room for the franchise’s trademark absurdity. Chicken Run: Eggstraction preview (Gamescom)

It’s been more than twenty years since Aardman’s feathered escape artists first plotted their way to freedom, and after last year’s Netflix sequel Dawn of the Nugget, they’re not quite done yet. Outright Games, known for family-friendly titles based on popular franchises, is now teaming up with Aardman Animations to bring Chicken Run: Eggstraction to life. The result isn’t a platformer or a party game as some might expect, but a co-op stealth adventure that puts a playful spin on sneaking past danger – all while staying true to the claymation charm of its source material. Iron Guard: Salvation review (Quest)

Tower defense might not be the first genre players associate with virtual reality, but Iron Guard: Salvation on Meta Quest shows how well the format can adapt to the headset. Developed by Xlab Digital, it takes the strategic placement and resource management of traditional tower defense and merges it with immersive VR combat. The result is a hybrid experience where you can hover above the battlefield as a commander one moment, then drop into the fray through your drone to unleash firepower directly the next. The premise is straightforward sci-fi – humanity at war with hostile machines across different planets – but it’s a solid excuse for a mix of strategic planning and hands-on action.
