Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree review
Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree, developed by Primal Game Studio and published by Knights Peak, is a 2.5D action RPG that ambitiously blends Metroidvania exploration with Soulslike combat mechanics and gorgeous visuals. Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy review
Over twenty five years after the original Amerzone launched as Benoît Sokal’s debut in the adventure game world, the remake titled Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy reimagines that journey with modern visuals and design, while trying to preserve the spirit of the 1999 classic. Developed by Microids Studio Paris and published by Microids, this updated version walks a fine line between nostalgia and accessibility, offering a calm, atmospheric alternative to the action-heavy pace of most of today’s games. While it doesn’t modernize everything flawlessly, it largely succeeds in rekindling the charm and mystery of the original adventure – adding both polish and content in the process. Steel Seed review (PS5)
Set in a post-apocalyptic world shaped by both technological ambition and the fragility of humanity, Steel Seed marks a return to narrative-driven design for Storm in a Teacup, the studio behind Close to the Sun – but in a much more action-oriented genre. Released on PlayStation 5 and published by ESDigital Games, the game follows Zoe, a determined young woman exploring a colossal underground complex dominated by machines. Accompanied by Koby, a hovering drone companion, her journey is driven by a desire to uncover hidden truths in a hostile world. While the setting delivers a striking dystopian atmosphere and an interesting human-machine dynamic, the narrative doesn’t always reach the emotional highs it aims for. The worldbuilding is visually rich and thematically ambitious, but some of the storytelling beats can feel underdeveloped compared to some of the studio’s previous work.
