Sonic Go Fast REALMz Wired Headset review (Switch)

In the realm of gaming headsets, PDP’s Realmz Sonic headset for the Nintendo Switch stands out not just for its unique Sonic the Hedgehog aesthetic but also for its surprising performance at an affordable price point. This wired gaming headset is not just a collectible with its Sonic branding and figurine, but also a more than competent headset for Nintendo Switch gamers.

What sets the Realmz headset apart is its tasteful design that avoids the pitfall of being overly flashy and kid-like. The combination of blue, red, and white colors gives it a sporty look in line with Sonic’s iconic stylings. The real standout design element, however, is the Sonic figurine embedded in the right ear cup. While it’s just an aesthetic feature, the quality of the figurine is good and having it there adds a delightful touch to fans, making the Realmz headset visually distinctive and an instant headturner.

Comfort is not compromised either, thanks to the padded headband and cups. Within the price range, this one actually ranks among the comfiest headsets we’ve tried thus far, and it’s nice to see that PDP didn’t save on comfort after investing in the license and visual features. The flexible mic arm and on-board volume control complete the feature set, although additional settings like a removeable microphone and/or cable would have been nice.

The audio output of the Realmz gaming headset is surprisingly solid. Equipped with 40mm drivers, it delivers clear sound, with vocals and bass output both on point. While it might not compete with pricier alternatives, the audio quality remains competent without sacrificing clarity – and most gamers won’t have any issues here. In testing, the headset performed well in games that make use of stereo and/or positional audio too.

However, the sound profile leans slightly on the flatter side, because although bass delivery seemed fine the headset seems less geared toward the highs – perhaps making it a less attractive choice for discerning music lovers. The microphone quality is decent for online gaming, offering clear communication with friends and teammates – though it’s mostly just functional and you shouldn’t use it for professional purposes.

You should definitely consider picking up this Realmz headset if you’re drawn to eye-catching aesthetics and unique design elements, especially the Sonic figurine that should be an instant hit with fans. Its affordability makes it an especially attractive option for those looking to add a gift to their holiday shopping list. Between price, design and performance, this is a more than competent headset for anyone not looking for premium audio (and the associated price tags) – and fans of SEGA’s iconic hedgehog will be over the moon with it.
