Let’s! Revolution! review (PS5)

After a warm reception upon its launch on PC, Let’s! Revolution! by BUCK is now out on consoles as well. Offering a novel blend of Minesweeper, tactics, puzzle mechanics and roguelike elements, the game presents a fresh and engaging puzzle experience with a striking visual style from animators who previously worked on projects like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. We took a look at the PlayStation 5 version.

Set in the enchanting fantasy land of Beebom, the game follows the player’s quest to overthrow the narcissistic king who rules over the land. The narrative premise may seem simple, but it serves as a compelling backdrop for the addictive gameplay that follows when combined with the artistic approach to the visuals.

At its core, Let’s! Revolution! challenges players to navigate grid-based levels, strategically uncovering tiles to avoid hazards and enemies while hunting down the elusive king. Each level presents a new puzzle to solve, requiring players to use deduction and logic to progress – you’ll quickly notice the resemblance to Minesweeper here, but we’ve never had more fun with the formula than we did here.

The game offers six unique hero classes, each with its own playstyle and abilities, adding depth and variety to the gameplay experience as well as replay value. Whether players prefer brute force, stealth tactics, or strategic manipulation, there’s a character to suit different styles of play and it’s fun to experiment between them and try out different strategies.

Additionally, the game’s charming hand-drawn art style and vibrant animations bring the world of Beebom to life, creating an immersive and visually appealing experience that’s lightyears removed from the basic Minesweeper look and feel you might be used to. The whimsical soundtrack by Antfood further enhances the game’s atmosphere, complementing its playful tone and bringing everything to life.

However, Let’s! Revolution! is not without its challenges. Some players may find the initial learning curve steep, especially when mastering the abilities of later hero classes. The lack of a comprehensive tutorial for these classes can lead to initial frustration and trial-and-error gameplay as players learn how different genres have been blended together here. While you’re learning, certain enemy encounters and level layouts may result in difficulty spikes, testing players’ patience and perseverance.

Despite these challenges, Let’s! Revolution! remains a delightful and addictive puzzle game that offers hours of engaging gameplay. Its unique blend of Minesweeper mechanics, roguelike elements, and charming presentation make it a standout title worthy of attention from puzzle enthusiasts and strategy fans alike, and it’s a must play for fans of puzzlers that feel fresh rather than just offering a take on a familiar concept.
