With so much digital content out there now, we gravitate towards boxed sets when we think about good gift idea suggestions for the holidays. And this one came out a few years ago, but Warner Bros’ Harry Potter: The Complete 8-Film Collection in 4K seems like a great fit for the holiday period. With 8 films it’s just about manageable when you have one or two weeks off, and with plenty of magic and wonder it’s a lovely fit for the season as well. Laika: Aged Through Blood review (PS5)

Laika: Aged Through Blood, developed by Brainwash Gang and published by Headup Games, brings a unique post-apocalyptic “motorvania” to the PlayStation 5 after an initial PC launch that was very well-received. The game centers around a narrative where a mother coyote warrior embarks on a vengeful journey to reclaim her tribe’s lost land from oppressive forces that occupy her homeland. With its vehicular combat, sprawling hand-drawn wasteland, and a storyline that explores themes of vengeance and loss, Laika aims to carve out its space in the ever-expanding and crowded world of Metroidvanias – but does so very well. Three Minutes To Eight, a pixel art mystery adventure developed by Chaosmonger Studio and published by Assemble Entertainment, is a journey into both time and the mind. In a premise that rivals many thriller films, the game challenges players to confront their own mortality and unravel the mysteries around them, knowing that the protagonist is destined to meet his doom at precisely 07:57 PM. Cookie Cutter review (PS5)

Sounding a lot cuter than it actually is, Cookie Cutter by Subcult Joint and Rogue Games delivers a refreshing twist to the classic Metroidvania formula. The game introduces Cherry, a fierce android on a mission fueled by love and vengeance, set against the backdrop of a dystopian universe ruled by the egomaniacal INFONET.
