The journey of Kate Walker begins once more in this polished revival of a 2002 PC classic, and from the first moments it feels intimately familiar yet freshly realised. The narrative thrust remains the same: a New York lawyer sent to the French Alps to oversee a factory sale who ends up swept into a strange odyssey across snow-covered landscapes in the company of automaton Oscar and inventor Hans Voralberg. That core story retains its emotional weight – Kate’s sense of displacement, wonder and gradual transformation are still convincingly presented. We played it on a PlayStation 5. Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake review (PS5)
From the moment the opening world map unfurls, it is evident that ARTDINK and Square Enix have crafted a labour of love rather than a mere nostalgia grab with their Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake. The twin sagas of the Erdrick lineage are offered as a single package, and the first title introduces a lone hero set upon a mythic quest, while the second expands into a party-based journey of cousins and legacy. That dual structure remains intact, with new narrative threads woven in to brighten familiar beats and better contextualise the era of the games, yet the fundamental simplicity of the tales persists – hero versus evil, travel through dungeons, reclaim the land. The remake honours the original tone while making the past accessible for modern sensibilities at the same time, marking another great revival by Square Enix. Atari Gamestation Go review
The Atari Gamestation Go, created through Atari’s partnership with My Arcade, aims to deliver a portable archive of classic arcade and console experiences while adding a handful of modern conveniences. Its core promise – more than 200 built-in titles together with five entries from Atari’s Recharged series and notable arcade names such as PAC-MAN, Rodland and Saint Dragon – frames the device unmistakably as a nostalgia-forward handheld that also wants to be practically useful in 2025 thanks to a few standout features. The House of the Dead 2: Remake review (PS4/PS5)
The House of the Dead 2: Remake resurrects Sega’s cult arcade shooter for a new generation, placing players once again in the roles of AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart as they investigate a city overrun by undead creatures. This modern take preserves the linear, frantic rhythm of the original while aiming to update its presentation and controls for console audiences. In doing so, it walks a fine line between nostalgia and frustration, echoing the pulse of the late-90s classic but rarely escaping its dated shell. Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition review
When Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords launched back in 2007, it made waves by fusing the addictive pull of match-3 puzzling with the depth of role-playing systems. Nearly two decades later, Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition lands on PlayStation 5 and other platforms with all that content bundled together, polished up for modern audiences. Developed by Infinity Plus 2 and published by 505 Games, this collection doesn’t just feel like a nostalgia trip – it also serves as a reminder of why the formula worked so well in the first place. But while the core is as engaging as ever, not everything about this package has aged equally gracefully. Continue reading “Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition review”
