Indie Interviews: Wreckout (Gamescom)

One of the nominees during the UK preliminary round of the EuroPlay contest last week, Wreckout is an upcoming future sports/arcade title from Huey Games. It also just won the Track & Build award for best soundtrack, so we were excited to chat to director Rob Hewson about the game. Continue reading “Indie Interviews: Wreckout (Gamescom)”

Indie Interviews: Monstrum 2 (Gamescom)

Before the big final of the EuroPlay contest that played out during Gamescom, a preliminary round for each participating country was held. Holding off stiff competition from the likes of Codemasters’ DIRT 5, the UK winner was Team Junkfish’s Monstrum 2, an asymmetrical multiplayer-focused title that blends sci-fi and horror. People voting in the EuroPlay content seemed to be in agreement that this is one of the most exciting upcoming titles from a smaller studio, so we chatted with Team Junkfish’s director Adam Dart about the game. Indie Interviews: reky (Gamescom)

Last week’s Indie Arena Booth at Gamescom wasn’t just full of indie titles that are going to come out in the next few weeks or month (or in some cases years!), but also featured a couple of games you can already get your hands on because they’ve been released. One of these games was reky, from Greek developer beyondthosehills, which was published through Plug In Digital earlier this year. We spoke to the team at beyondthosehills about the development process behind reky. Continue reading “Indie Interviews: reky (Gamescom)”

Indie Interviews: Melbits POD (Gamescom)

During Gamescom, we had the pleasure of taking part in UKIE’s Eurovision-inspired video game contest EuroPlay. Bringing together 15 promising upcoming games from 15 different countries, the public was allowed to vote on their favorite upcoming production. Each game first had to get through a preliminary round in their respective country, so the total number of games competing was even higher with nominees like DiRT 5 and Monstrum 2 competing for the UK’s opening round. Eventually, Melbits POD from Spain became the big winner of the event, and we spoke to the people behind this very novel new physical/digital hybrid concept both during and after the show. Here’s what we learned about this exciting new gaming concept. Continue reading “Indie Interviews: Melbits POD (Gamescom)”

Indie Interviews: Aeon Drive (Gamescom)

As we keep highlighting some of the excellent indies there were a part of Gamescom this past week, we now look towards Aeon Drive from 2Awesome Studio, an action platformer focused on speedrunning that is currently being developed and takes place in “Cyberpunk Barcelona” – it’s unclear if Messi is still around or not. With some new mechanics and a visual style that’s a mix between retro and cyberpunk, we couldn’t wait to find out more. Here’s our chat with the developer.
