The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II review (PS5)

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II picks up directly after the events of its predecessor, continuing the journey of Van Arkride in the Republic of Calvard. The game’s narrative draws players into a web of intrigue as Van investigates a string of grisly murders, with a powerful new force emerging to threaten the relative peace that Calvard had briefly enjoyed. As the protagonist grapples with his own connection to the events and the mysterious “crimson beast,” players are thrust into a political landscape, where factions battle for control, and law-abiding citizens struggle to maintain order. The game weaves a dense, dialogue-heavy story that demands attention, delivering moments of high drama interspersed with slow-building exposition. However, its somewhat verbose nature and reliance on long cutscenes may be challenging for newcomers who haven’t played the first entry in the saga. For those already familiar with the franchise, the narrative will feel more rewarding, though some may find its intricacies overwhelming. We checked it out on a PlayStation 5. The game retains its signature hand-drawn aesthetic while refining its combat mechanics, exploration, and progression systems. But while it successfully delivers a brutal and immersive action RPG experience, a few balancing and design choices prevent it from fully surpassing the original. Here’s a look at the PC version. Civilization VII review (PS5)

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII marks a bold evolution in the acclaimed and long-running 4X strategy series, introducing new mechanics while staying true to the franchise’s core principles. The game retains the essence of empire-building, where players lead a civilization from the dawn of humanity to the modern world. One of the most significant changes in this installment is the restructuring of the game’s timeline into three distinct epochs: Antiquity, Exploration, and the Modern Age. This shift allows for a fresh approach to the traditional gameplay loop, but it also brings some challenges, particularly in terms of pacing and long-term strategy. Players will need to adapt to the game’s faster transitions between eras, which can sometimes feel like a (partial) reset in terms of progression. Continue reading “Civilization VII review (PS5)”
