We really enjoyed Batman: Arkham VR when that launched back in 2017, so we were eager to see how Batman: Arkham Shadow would turn out. As with that Arkham VR, the game takes players deep into the world of Gotham, capitalizing on the immersive capabilities of VR to deliver a unique experience for Batman fans. Developed by Camouflaj and published by Oculus Studios, the game drops players right into the middle of a city under siege, weaving an original narrative centered around a new villain, the Rat King, who instigates chaos on the Fourth of July. Gotham’s iconic and familiar blend of grit and tension is rendered vividly in VR, creating an atmosphere that’s simultaneously unsettling and thrilling as players explore familiar, yet twisted, streets of Gotham. [REDACTED] review (PS5)
Set on the icy moon of Callisto that we were first introduced to in The Callisto Protocol, [REDACTED] delivers a survival experience with brutal mechanics, challenging players to escape Black Iron prison amidst hordes of infected and cutthroat fellow survivors. KRAFTON and Striking Distance Studios have crafted this one as a roguelike where each death isn’t a failure but a chance to learn, adapt, and grow stronger in a relentless push toward the final escape pod. The mix of roguelike and sci-fi horror elements here taps into classics like Hades but with the harsh, atmospheric touch of The Callisto Protocol, creating a visceral experience with a few dark surprises. HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded review (Quest)
HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded brings Agent 47’s world of stealth and high-stakes contracts into a fully immersive VR setting, offering a ‘built for VR’ twist on the series’ tried-and-true gameplay after Hitman 3 previously had VR support already. Published by XR Games, this VR adaptation is ambitious, pushing the Hitman experience onto the Meta Quest with new features like dual-wielding and refined movement options that attempt to capture the series’ trademark blend of strategy and improvisation. However, while HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded introduces some intriguing concepts, the execution varies, and the game faces several challenges in translating a complex game world into VR. Empire of the Ants review (PS5)
The gorgeous Empire of the Ants transports players into the fascinating world of tiny insects, where every blade of grass towers like a forest, and the smallest creatures suddenly pose a very real challenge. Developed by Tower Five and published by Microids, the game is a blend of real-time strategy and tactical adventure, drawing heavily on Bernard Werber’s acclaimed ant saga for narrative inspiration. Stepping into the role of a warrior ant, players find themselves tasked with defending their empire and navigating a microscopic yet epic landscape full of insect warfare. We checked it out on a PlayStation 5. Continue reading “Empire of the Ants review (PS5)”
Puppet House review (PS5)
Released just in time for Halloween, Puppet House captures a haunting atmosphere within its puzzle-horror framework, offering a blend of escape-room challenges and unsettling discoveries. Developed by Vecube Studio and Spirit Games Studio and published by Gaming Factory, this game takes players to Field Town’s eerie outskirts, where detective Rick investigates a series of local disappearances linked to a ventriloquist’s decaying mansion. The chilling premise of a possessed puppet, brought to life by a dark ritual, adds layers of dread to Rick’s investigation as players face both psychological and physical horrors. We tested it on a PlayStation 5. Continue reading “Puppet House review (PS5)”
